Kere Veiko - its not so big, 53 x 43 and maybe 7.5 cm thick, we have used this system before, if the scoop is big enough and shaped well then the air from the front cools the radiator very well. the fan (ventilator?) only works when the car is sitting still for a long time. Because it is so high from the ground it never gets full of swamp and it is always working at 100% efficiency

I worry that if you put the radiator behind the seats then getting enough air to it becomes a problem - you also end up with the fan low enough to have a bad day in deep water

what engine are you using?

I'm thinking that I'll use 3.9L LR engine and ZF 4HP-22 tranny.
Why did U use pice of frame between the pipes?Is it complicated to do everythig from pipes?

the little piece of frame does 2 things
1) it means maybe if we sell this car to a Russian in future its easier for them to get it over the border
2) We dont have much time to make this car so it saves us about 1 weeks work to make 4 link front and rear suspension

The tubes is not so difficult, if you have a good bending machine life is easier, we also have a tube notcher (this is when 2 or more pipes meet and the joint must be cut so they fit nicely together) - the best thing we have ever used with tubes is Bend Tec Pro it makes bending tube very accurate (we cut pipe to 1mm accuracy) and very easy

John's 109 (The flyingspanners party bus) has a 4.6 V8 inside and pretty small radiator, I can ask him to post some pictures of it if you like? I think it came from a tractor or a truck...

Here's my radiator, it's the full width of the Series 3 front and about 35cm deep. The fins are spaced wide apart to stop mud sticking in the fins and blocking the air:

This type of radiator is used in construction equipment, it's called a "gillon" core. The pipes are big so it holds lots of water too. Fans are from an Audi 26 I think. So far it has never blocked up or had a problem keeping the engine cool.

Pretty similar are peugeot 1.9TD fans & very efficient cooling on my 4Runner 3.0V6.

Veiko - dont buy a Pacet or a Kenlowe fan, they are not made to survive our sport - a little water and they die, take one from a dead car - the quality is much better and they are usually much cheaper

Agree with U on fans.So far I have used Lada fans because they are permanent magnet type and sealed. Two years of raceing and still are working good.

Ive used quite a few SAAB fans, from 900, 9000 and 95 models, two speeds works nicely but I use these instead of others because a friend owns a SAAB garage and I can swap things with him - saves money

so - we did a little more work, started to make the petrol tank, its 120ltr

If you look carefully you can see a picture of Silverbeast on the wall, I took it in St Isaacs in 2005

Mike gets busy with lots of tape again and starts to make the back wheel arches from fibreglass




I like this - it looks a bit nicer in the flesh, I will weld it all up tonight, the cab is starting to feel like a cab

the footwells got welded up, they weigh nothing but are pretty strong


and we make some more strips to mount the panels


Finally some boxes have arrived - this weekend we work HARD

We start making parts for the fuel tank


This is the swirl pot - it will be recessed into the fuel tanks and give the fuel pumps somewhere to live


The fibreglass fits like a glove


we fold the aluminium for the tank, make a frame and weld the frame to the tank - the steel blocks are to limit heat distortion


I will make holes for the fuel feed and return pipes later


We dont have enough big aluminium so we weld some smaller pieces together


then put it in the lathe


some more welding and we end up with a fuel cap

and a sump


welded them into the tank


about 3metres of weld and a burned finger but thats another thing done




once its fitted properly I can make a storage box


Home time!

You look tired but the truck looks cool as - almost ready for the MOT I found a picture of Petal last year with a few weeks to go, wasn't a million miles off where this one is now although different stuff needed doing and there were fewer unknowns.

Hoping the wiring will arrive Wednesday so I can get that in and fairly sorted while you're asleep, err I mean hard at work at your day job
